Tower of London
Link to further information
William the Conqueror is so named because he conquered England in 1066. The logic of that appellation is relentless. That same year he founded the Tower of London completed it in 1078. It has served various functions over the years, such as an armory, a treasury, a menagerie, the Royal Mint, repository of the Crown Jewels, and the site of numerous beheadings and other royal past-times. See the above link for an extensive description. The Crown Jewels were fun. They were, of course, behind what was probably some kind of super-duper resist-anything glass. There was a small moving sidewalk on which one stood and be slowly passed along the display. There wasn't anyone else around so we amused ourselves by walking backwards.
